Rooted in history
First built in 1912, Sacred Heart Hospital quickly became an important member of the Fort Madison community. A place families counted on for service and caring. And it grew, with building additions in 1927 and 1953.
Today, that spirit of community service and growth has been preserved as The Kensington, a proud landmark in southeast Iowa.
Serving our families today
Centrally located in Fort Madison, The Kensington is just minutes away from shopping, libraries, medical services, banks and restaurants.
A beautiful living room welcomes visitors, inviting them to linger in conversation, enjoy the large aquarium, or watch the busy bird feeders just outside the picture window. Meals are served in a bright and airy dining room with double french doors leading to the patio and landscaped courtyard beyond. It was recently expanded to accommodate an ice cream corner – very popular with visitors!
New families meet each other at a special dinner where they’re introduced to our Heart to Heart program. Family Traditions events are planned throughout the year, including the annual hog roast in August and Christmas Cookie Social.
The private dining room is perfect for entertaining friends and family, and a comfortable family room offers books and video games for the great-grandkids.
These and other family services provide fellowship and support, as well as special occasions for loved ones to enjoy good times together.
Primrose Path for specialized care
The Kensington also offers Primrose Path, a state-of-the-art memory care neighborhood.
A secure, private residence located right in the building, it is specially designed to accommodate those with Alzheimer’s and other memory loss conditions.
With its own dining rooms, living rooms and three wings with 26 bedrooms, Primrose Path feels like a family home, yet provides a high staff-to-resident ratio, daily hands-on activities, and familiar, reassuring routines.
Making memories for tomorrow
Opportunities for involvement abound, including classes, exercise options, tea parties, and more. The kindergarten partnership is a favorite activity, keeping many residents young at heart. Bus trips are also very popular, taking residents to shop, attend the Pella Tulip Festival, join educational field trips, or enjoy a community concert.
Many “bucket list” wishes have been granted too, including a first-ever train ride.
Personalized programs, family events, and staff devoted to making each day special… together these factors make life at The Kensington an experience to remember.
